Year 3 #1
The movie Robocop is both popular within the mainstream yet maintains an almost cult status.
While I saw Robocop 2 before Robocop, I find it hard to imagine a movie that is better crafted and more entertaining than the original.
It is one of those movies that I can rewatch several times within a short period and barely tire of.
A lot has been said about diminishing returns from the 2nd to the 3rd to the Reboot. There is also a lesser-known television series that I have barely watched.
A few years ago there was a Korean fried chicken commercial making the rounds. It was from the 90s and featured Robocop. And guess what? It was awesome.
Robocop is one of the best characters ever, and I can’t get enough Robocop.
I also rarely splurge on new release videogames at full price.
But when I found out that there was a new game called Robocop: Rogue City, I had to buy it.
It was everything I could reasonably expect from a Robocop game. While it doesn’t match the sarcastic sharpness of the social commentary in the 1st Robocop, nothing ever does. What the game does offer is an aesthetic that is consistent with the first two Robocop movies, and it gives players a chance to control Robocop, not just the action, but also the speaking.
But the best thing about the new Robocop game…it inspired me to rewatch the first Robocop movie, and finally take a stab at writing out exactly why I love it so much that I skipped school and watched it five times in a row one day in the 90s.
But for now, I’ll end this post to give you enough time to watch this fried chicken commercial a few more times while I start writing up my Robocop notes.
Over the next few posts I will be focusing in-depth on Robocop.
If you haven’t seen it, then get ready for some major spoilers. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you.
